Thursday February 26 Results:

 VFW vs LAKESIDE DERMATOLOGY

Beautiful day today in Sunny Sebring as the VFW took on the Lakeside Dermatology team.

With numerous close plays it was really nice to see the honesty and great sportsmanship portrayed by both teams as a number of plays during this game were very close calls and with one play at second base where the umpire called the runner out but second baseman Jim Polatty relayed to the umpire that the runner was indeed, safe.

VFW jumped on top in the first inning and rode the rest of the game to 20 runs going into the bottom of the 8th.

Lakeside came alive, but still came up short, giving VFW the win - 20-12

 CONGRATULATIONS on a nice game today. Good pitching by Lester Osbeck. We had 4 foul outs, plus a strike out. We tried to come back in last inning with a 7 run outburst, but still lost 20 to 12.

Highlights for Lakeside Dermatology included:

Vince Ferrer with a triple and a single.

Jeff Ayers and Bones McCoy both went 3 for 4, with an RBI each.

John Rozon had a triple and a single with 3 RBIs.

ALAN JAY AUTO vs McPHAIL'S AUTO

Latest softball report from Alan Jay Auto vs. McPhail's Auto:

It was another battle on the softball field. Both teams were missing players and trying to make due with shortened lineups. After 5 innings it was tied 6-6. Alan Jay put up 13 runs in the last three innings to win over McPhail's 19-11. Don Dobbert pitched well, holding McPhail's from any big scoring innings. Dan Slot made a nice over the shoulder catch in the outfield. On the offence, it was Slot leading the way with 4-5 and 4 runs scored. Dick Cook and Steve Smutnick were each 4-5 as well. Dan Crosier, Cathy Collier, Don Dobbert, and Dave Conrad each added 3 hits a piece. Everyone in the lineup contributed to the win. Alan Jay Auto's record improved to 12-4.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24 TH GAMES

 VFW vs Alan Jay Auto

Firstly, on Diamond "A", it was a battle for FIRST place. Both teams had key players missing but the game proved to be a nail biter.

The battle began...The gloves were off... well, sort of... as the temperatures were a cool 49degrees by first pitch. But each team weathered (pun intended) through and certainly showed that everyone came to play.

After battling back and forth, the game was tied 10-10 after 5 innings.

VFW came to bat in the top of the 8th inning and Chris Wills put on a base running clinic and charged home to give VFW the lead.

In the bottom of the 8th, VFW was able to hold off the mighty bats of Alan Jay Auto to win the game 11-10 to take sole possession of First Place.

Both pitchers pitched strong games with VFW's Lester Osbeck earning the win.

It was a cold day and a battle of attrition. Both teams were missing multiple players due to injuries and serious medical concerns. Special prayers for Bobby Vasher and Ken and Phyllis Lloyd. 

In the battle for first place, VFW came out victorious 11-10. It was 10-10 after 5 innings and neither team could muster a run until the 8th when Chris Wills raced home to take the lead. Alan Jay failed to score in their half of the final inning. Dick Cook made a great play of a fly ball with an over the shoulder catch and then had the presence of mind to throw back to second base where Cathy Collier retired the runner trying to return to tag up. On the offensive side for Alan Jay Auto, Don Dobbert was 2-2 plus 2 walks and 3 runs scored. Dick Cook and Dave Conrad were each 3-4 and 2 RBIs. Mike Martino scored twice and had 2 RBIs also. Dan Crosier chipped in with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and several strong defensive plays at third base.  Alan Jay Auto's record fell to 11-4 while VFW improved to 12-3, alone in first place.

LAKESIDE DEMATOLOGY vs BEN & JERRY'S

Lakeside Dematology and Ben & Jerry's were tied at 11 going into the last inning. In the top of the 8th, Ben & Jerry's scored 9. We only managed to score 1 in the bottom half, for a final of 20 to 12. 

Highlights for Lakeside Dermatology included:

Jeff Ayers had 2 doubles.

Curt Glassman pitched a good game and had 3 singles and a double.

Vince Ferrer had 2 singles and a double.

It looks like Mr. Frost wants to take another shot at us and bring us in some cooler weather for gametime on Tuesday.

Double Header Day !!

 So today was Double Header Day and from what I'm hearing, there were some pretty good games played today.. Read on:

First off we had LAKESIDE DERMATOLOGY vs McPHAIL'S AUTO:

Lakeside Dermatology played a double header today against McPhail's. We won one and lost one.

In the first game, an outstanding defense and Curt Glassman's pitching resulted in our 2nd win of the season, by the score of 13 to 1.  

Our offensive highlights included:

Jeff Ayers 2 for 2, plus a walk.

Curt went 2 for 3 with a double and a single.

Vince Ferrer went 3 for 3.

Jack Nartker had a walk and 2 hits with 2 RBIs.

Mike Jones went 3 for 3.

Our offense was mostly absent in the 2nd game, except for Rod Lee's triple and Curt Glassman's home run over the scoreboard. We only managed 3 runs due in part to McPhail's turning 3 double plays.

VFW vs BEN & JERRY'S

This double header proved to be a good one.

For the first game, it was all VFW as their defense and batting really came in to play.

Ben & Jerry's took it on the chin as the VFW shut them out 10-0

VFW's first 4 batter's each had doubles in the first inning to help with the win

Leading hitters were Bobby Vasher with 5 hits and Billy Sorenson with 4 hits

With the great defense behind him, winning pitcher, Lester Osbeck pitched a great SHUTOUT game.

But hold on... Game TWO brought some life into the never give up Ben & Jerry's team as they roared out of the gate to take the lead.

With Ben & Jerry's having the hammer, the VFW team had to roll up their sleeves and dig in.

The top of the 6th inning proved to be eye opener with Manuel Martinez starting them off with a solid single to right field. More great batting followed and VFW managed to jump ahead and take the lead by 2.

Ben & Jerry's came up in the bottom of the 6th and were shut down by the VFW defense to hang on and win the game.

Final score-- VFW 7 - Ben & Jerry's 5

ELK'S vs ALAN JAY AUTO

Elks and Alan Jay Auto split the double header with ALAN JAY AUTO taking the first game 12-2

In game two, Elk's turned on the heat and picked up a WIN over Alan Jay Auto 15 - 9.

Kipp had a great game pitching allowing only twelve hits 

Jeff  hit a 3 run homer over the fence.

In the first game, Alan Jay Auto defeated the Elks 12-2. Alan Jay scored 5 runs in the first inning and that was enough to stay ahead of the Elks in the six-inning game. Alan Jay played great defense and the Elks seemed to hit the "at 'em" ball, right at the defenders. Dan Slot went 3-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs while Mike Martino was 2-3 and 3 RBIs, also. Don Dobbert, Ron Barts, and Dick Cook each added 2 hits apiece. The win brought Alan Jay Auto's record to 11-2.

In the second game, the Elks created a split of the double header, with a 15-9 win. They scored 5 in the bottom of the fifth and Alan Jay fell short in their last at bat. Dobbert, Slot, Martino, Steve Smutnick and Dave Conrad each had 2 hits. Cathy Collier had a nice 2 base hit and scored a run. Alan Jay Auto's record is now 11-3.
