Player Cards REQUIRED during NON LEAGUE PLAY !

 A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Player Cards are REQUIRED by the Highlands County Parks and Facilities Dept to use the Highlands Sports Complex WHEN YOU ARE NOT PLAYING IN A LEAGUE.

So, when you are playing in either the 20 game Winter League or in the 10 game Spring or Fall leagues-  you do not have to have a Player Card while playing in any of the 3 leagues.

When you are not in one of those leagues, and you wish to use the Sports Complex....you are required to have the Player Card with you.  

If you are year round resident (or need one for the 6 & 1/2 months between those 3 League playing times, then you need a full time card for a price of $26.88 per year. 

Those at batting practice now who are year-round residents need a year-round card, probably by April 22.

Staff will be checking for Players Cards

Highlands Sports Complex staff will start checking cards after the Spring League ends, which is after April 22. So everyone taking batting practice on Tuesdays or Thursdays do not have to have a card before April 22 or in other words you need a card by April 22.

If you are only interested in batting practice during the several months leading up to the Fall 10 game season or before the 20 game season, then you are required to have a 6 month card which costs $16.13. DO NOT GET ONE OF THE 6 MONTHS CARDS NOW but get one next October or when you come down. The current rule is that someone getting a 6 month card NOW will have that card expire on July 1 and therefore you will have to get another card if you want to go to batting practice before the next winter seasons or Fall league. 

 I will be accepting $$$ to turn into the Parks Department or you can go get your own card. Their office is at 636 Fernleaf Avenue in Sebring, which is behind the Sheriff's office.

Please...DO NOT GIVE ME 88 CENTS IN CHANGE. Give me $27.00 and the extra 12 cents will be donated to our league until April 22, then you are on your own!!!

BATTING PRACTICES and HIGHLANDS COUNTY PLAYER CARDS

Batting Practice is starting next Tuesday March 24 at 8:00 am and will be held each Tuesday and Thursday at the Highlands Sports complex generally until next Winter season starts, not counting when the guys bringing the balls go on vacation, etc. . 

The big guy is Stan Browne who will be there next Tuesday. 

Heads up : Highlands County requires a Players Card to come to use the Sports Complex when you are not on a team. 

It generally costs about $28 but come to the first session next Tuesday first for more details on how to obtain one.

 WE HOPE TO RESTART WITH PICKUP GAMES AFTER BATTING PRACTICE - MORE ON THAT LATER.

Tourney Results for March 19th

 

Congratulations to ALAN JAY AUTOMOTIVE for their exciting bottom of the 7th inning, come from behind win over a very determined VFW team in the Championship game.

There were some excellent games played prior to the Championship where either team could have taken the win, because all the games were all that close!

On a personal note, I can honestly tell you that over the past 9 years of playing in Winter Haven, with this being my first year living here in Sebring, and playing for SEBRING SENIOR SOFTBALL, this has definitely been one of the most competitive, exciting and above all, most ENJOYABLE experiences I have had over the years.

Thank you to all the players, coaches, teammates, and Commissioner, Jim Polatty for making me feel welcomed here in Sebring.

God willing, I look forward to next season.

Today was much better weather than Tuesday!  I think the triple-header worked.

Lakeside Dermatology won our the first game verses McPhails. We scored 5 in the first, and Ellis Howard's pitching and our defense held.

Our offensive highlights included:

Rod Lee with a home run and two doubles.

John Rozon with a home run and a triple.

Vince Ferrer had a triple and a double.

Ellis Howard had a triple and a single.

LAKESIDE DERMATOLOGY vs ALAN JAY AUTOMOTIVE

n our 2nd game today, we lost 13 to 12 to Alan Jay.  We again scored 5 in the first inning, but this time, Alan Jay was able to come back in the bottom of the last inning to win.

Offensive highlights for Lakeside Dermatology included:

'Woody' Jim Wood with 5 RBIs on a home run and a double.

Vince Ferrer with a triple and two singles.

Rod Lee with a triple, a double and a sacrifice fly.

Ellis Howard hit his 2nd triple of the day and also pitched his 2nd great game of the day.

Thanks to everyone for a great year. I had a lot of fun!

Lakeside Dermatology Makes It Four Straight!

Another beautiful day for softball, and another win for Lakeside Dermatology — that's four in a row! For the first time all season, we're officially out of the basement.

It was a true pitcher's duel, with two of the league's best — Curt Glassman and Dick Mooney — trading zeros on the mound. Defense ruled the day, and runs were hard to come by. We scratched out 8 runs on singles and one double, but it was just enough to edge out a 8–5 win.

Highlights for Lakeside Dermatology:

• Curt was lights-out on the mound and even better in the field, snagging at least three hard-hit balls to kill rallies.
• The infield backed him up all game — Jim "Woody" Wood at second, Jack Nartker at short, and Rod Lee at rover all came up big on defense.

It was also a great way to wrap up the regular season — the end-of-season pizza party was a blast. Big thanks to the organizers and volunteers who made it happen!

The battle for First Place began and Alan Jay Auto came out flying. VFW had some pretty decent hits, but couldn't match the power of the bat's displayed by the determined Alan Jay team.

After the dust settled, Alan Jay Auto outlasted the VFW team by a score of  21-11

Congratulations to Alan Jay Auto for securing First Place in regular season play. 

 VFW 's loss puts them in Second place.

Season Wrap-Up: Thank You, and a Championship Showdown

A big thank-you to Jim Polatty for once again serving as commissioner of the Sebring Senior Softball League this year. Running a league takes real dedication, and 2026 was no exception. Thanks also to Ken Gelinas for the website and blog — it was a great resource all season and beautifully done.

Game Report: Alan Jay Auto vs. Sebring VFW

It came down to the very last game of the season — the battle for first place between VFW and Alan Jay Auto. Both teams had battled through significant injuries that kept them from playing at full strength, which only made the finale more compelling.

The lead changed hands all afternoon. After four innings, Alan Jay held a narrow 9–6 edge — close enough that it was still anyone's game. By the fifth, Alan Jay had stretched things to 11–9. Then came the turning point: in the sixth inning, the car dealers exploded for 5 runs while holding the veterans scoreless. From there, Alan Jay never looked back, closing it out with a 21–11 win.

Alan Jay's Offense:

• Steve Russell had the game of the day, going 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs
• Don Dobbert, Mike Martino, and Eddie Tei each added 4 hits
• Dan Slot, Dick Cook, Terry Avery, and Cathy Collier each chipped in 3 hits

That balanced offensive attack carried Alan Jay Auto to the trophy for the league's best regular-season record, finishing 15-5.
