Sebring Senior Softball’s season recently completed games # 2 and # 3. Thursday January 8 saw VFW Post 4300 defeat Elks Lodge 1529, 22-9;
Alan Jay Auto Network beat Lakeside Dermatology 19 - 15;
and McPhails Auto Sales got the best of Ben & Jerry's 16 – 7.
Action continued on Tuesday January 13. Elks edged Lakeside Dermatology in a game decided in the last inning. Together both teams scored 51 runs, the highest of any game in the last 3 years. The Elk’s Paul Marcellus went 4 for 5 that included a triple, Dave Smutnick (5 for 5) and Kel Bollinger (4 for 4) both were perfect. For Lakeside Dermatology were Rod Lee had a grand slam and 2 doubles, Jack Narker hit 4 doubles, and Orlando Hernandez had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
Alan Jay Auto Network defeated Ben and Jerrys 19 – 8. Alan Jay’s Dan Slot went 4 for 4 with a Home Run and 5 RBIs and Mike Martino was 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Ben and Jerry’s Terry (Steamboat) Scott had 3 triples, Steve Dierdorff 3 for 3 with a single and 2 doubles & Scott Storch scorched 3 singles
VFW bested McPhails Auto Sales by a score of 17-8. Kenny Haney led the victors hitting 4 for 4 that included a triple and Billy Sorenson was 3 for 3. VFW’s outfielders Haney, Sorenson, and Joe Shelton plus Rover Chris Wills caught everything hit to them. McPhail’s Greg Ramos had 3 hits, 2 RBIs and did his usual terrific defense. McPhail’s Michele Kaminsky, playing second base made the play of the day for moving far to her left to catch an incredibly hard-hit grounder.
The standings after 3 games are Alan Jay & VFW lead with 3-0 records, followed by Elks, McPhails Auto and Lakeside Dermatology and Ben and Jerrys.
